FAQs
Niger Delta Budget Monitoring Group is an independently founded Non-Governmental Organization, which evolved from the Commonwealth of Niger Delta Youths.
NDEBUMOG was created as national Non-Governmental Organization to monitor and tracks public expenditure, particularly, the 13% derivation accruing to Niger Delta and other allocations disbursed among the three tiers of government across Nigeria. Many misunderstands and sees the organization as a regional NGO. That is erroneous! We are a national organization with elevated (regional) interest for accountability in the Niger Delta. This is amplified by endemic resource disease that has bedeviled the Niger Delta. Whereas, Niger Delta is our primary place of interest, we demand accountability throughout Nigeria and has evidently demonstrated this accountability appetite throughout Nigeria and will continue to do so.
NDEBUMOG has collaborated with CSEA, ACEP, CDD, CSJ, Oxfam, and others, to conduct research, hence, we are considered as three in one organisation. That is, a pro-poor (grassroots) organisation, anticorruption institution and a research think tank. On the strength of this, NDEBUMOG was invited by the National Assembly to submit memorandums on critical matters, including, the Petroleum Industry (Governance) Bill and Budget Defence Hearings, etc. NDEBUMOG has provoked investigations by the National Assembly through fiscal intelligence. Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the Federal, States and Local Governments has engaged NDEBUMOG on capacity, collaborations or on fiscal governance issues. This answers to the type of organisation that we are…
From NDEBUMOG’s inception, up till now, we do not have any (formal) working relationship with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). However, spontaneously, and occasionally, we do checkout and monitors (voluntarily), NDDC’s capital projects, as part of our efforts to evaluate impacts of the agency’s projects and programmes on the lives of Niger Deltans and Nigerians, generally. Such are undertaken at NDEBUMOG’s (independent) costs and without political nuances.
Concerning corruption, Niger Deltans and Nigerians are victims of serial abnormalities that psychologically becomes normal. A single organization or person may not end corruption, except, there is a collective (communal) unanimity to end the trend. Efforts demand a collective democratic-mass-actions. The Niger Delta and Nigeria are volatile environment. We are careful not to militarize our network of volunteers in a volatile environment that NDEBUMOG operates, balancing, security for our officials with constructive democratic approaches in our work and reconciling outcomes in a highly volatile environment. This view emanated from the fact; a Pan Niger Delta youths’ organization initiated NDEBUMOG.
Resources for NDEBUMOG’s work are source through partnerships, proposals, and grants sourcing opportunities in a competitive development’s funding space.
